Popular Pakistani actress our very own Sajal Aly, who has given us numerous hit series and made her presence known in Bollywood, is all set to make her international debut now. Sajal is known for her versatile acting and also stunned fans with her performance in Mom, her debut Bollywood film.
BBC journalist Haroon Rahsid first broke the news of Sajal rumored to be shooting for Jemima Khans film What’s Love Got To Do With It? In addition, her agent later confirmed it.
It was announced last year that PM Imran Khan’s former wife Jemima Goldsmith would be producing and writing her first ever romantic-comedy What’s Love Got To Do With It? and will also collaborate with Indian Film director Shekhar Kapoor, which would be his first movie after his Oscar winner Elizabeth: The Golden Age.
Variety confirmed the news that Shabana Azmi will also join the star studded cast that includes Lily James, Shazad Latif, Emma Thompson, Rob Brydon, Asim Chaudhry and Sajal Ali. The film is based on an original script written by Jemima Khan.
While talking about the film, Kapur told the Variety, “It’s a story of identities. It’s about cultural clashes and it’s a comedy, but it’s about hiding behind an identity and how identities can become tribal, and how tribalism can lead to clashes and fundamentalism. It’s a romantic comedy, but based on this vital idea of people adopting identities out of fear of insignificant treatment and keeping them in powerless position.”
