Sarwat Gillani made headlines with her daring project called Churails. The project grabbed attention on both sides of the border for being bold and having a feminist approach. However, Sarwat, in her new interview, made the headlines again for revealing what she thinks of feminism.
Gillani confessed on a show with Mira Sethi that she isn’t a feminist. She admitted that she didn’t want to align herself with the feminist ideology.
Sarwat stressed that she thinks feminism is not exclusively for women; it is for men too. “Many men help take feminism forward because they support women, they back them, elevate and encourage their women to take a step forward.”
When Sethi asked Sarwat point-blank if she is a feminist, she replied with “Am I?”
“But I do understand why few men have issues with women. I try and understand men as well. Like I feel that the women are very emotional. So I have two minds with this statement. And since I’m an actor and an artist, I tend to put myself in everybody else’s shoes, whether it’s a man or a woman. That’s where I feel I am conflicted.”
Sarwat replied to Sethi
Talking about her predicament and its solution, she said, “The only way I can see this being solved is by creating awareness.” Further adding that the only we can do is by knowing the laws, and what’s best is that everything is available on google for us to read.
